Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) refers to electronic devices that consists of a small chip and an antenna. Its rather a new and upcoming technology in certain countries. The digital chip is capable of storing some data in it. The technology uses the radio waves to automatically detect physical objects. The following are the components in the RFID setup :

• RFID Tags
  RFID Reader & Antenna also called as an RFID Interrogator
  Host PC

In many areas, RFID works better than Barcode.

• No requirement for line-of-sight
• High memory capacity if needed
• Anti-collision (many tags can be read at the same time)
• Robust and reliable
• Performs in rugged, harsh environment
• No human intervention

The world will soon see more and more RFID, as the only factor now is the cost. As the demand increases the cost gradually will come down.
